Below Deck cast member Rhylee Gerber always presented a tough exterior. Whether it was a simple exchange between coworkers or answering to the lineup of bosuns that tried to manage her, Rhylee’s reactionary attitude seemed to escalate situations. Of course, the toxic masculinity onboard this past season was beyond acceptable, but dealing with male coworkers often put Rhylee on the defensive. Recall the season with the perfectly respectful Ross Inia as her bosun.
But that is just in the professional realm. Rhylee does have a positive male relationship in her life. That person is her stepfather. This weekend, Rhylee shared some touching photos of her with her stepfather.
Rhylee’s stepfather has been battling cancer, and unfortunately, is now in hospital due to other health complications. She shared the hashtag, #cancersucks on her social media as well as posting pictures with her stepfather from his hospital bed.
Rhylee wrote of her step-father’s health, “found clots in 3 of the 4 heart chambers. Doctor keeping him on blood thinners but also found fluid in one lung from the CT scan. Will treat that fluid in the lung by stopping the blood thinner tomorrow or Sunday and then drain the lung provided he manages well. If all goes well he will be sent home on new oral blood thinner next week.”

Fellow cast members posted words of support. Captain Lee Rosbach wrote, “all my best to you and yours in this trying time. Let me know what I can do to help.” Colin Macy O’Toole said, “thinking of you!,” while Captain Sandy Yawn shared, “praying for home.”
Maybe all the support had some cosmic affect. Rhylee posted an update on Twitter Sunday evening that indicates her step-father may be on the mend. She wrote, “Hoonie ate today, got a sponge bath and has color in his cheeks again.”
