Southern Charm recap

Southern Charm Recap: Boys Will Be Boys

Last night’s Southern Charm proved that regardless of their jealousy, petty social media battles, and all-around dysfunctional behavior, Kathryn Dennis and Thomas Ravenel create some absolutely beautiful children together. Of course before we’re introduced to the new baby, we have to get through an episode’s worth of wealthy man-children (and Craig Conover) treating the world as their playground. After Shepard “Shep” Rose’s mountain weekend, it’s time for a big time for the boys on the west coast. In Los Angeles, Whitney Sudler-Smith is cooking breakfast for Larissa and they joke about Craig’s promise ring for Naomie.

Back in Mount Pleasant, Kathryn and Cooper Ray (welcome back!) are spa-la-la-ing at the Woodhouse Day Spa. God, I love a man in a custom bow-tie and a fluffy robe! Kathryn’s getting her first facial as she anticipates the birth of her son. T-Rav has been so attentive lately, and she’s hoping he’s coming around to the idea of being a family man. Cooper swoops in to deliver some much needed tough love. He reminds Kathryn that she’s fallen for this before, and she has to realize that Thomas is a fifty-year-old playboy. Sure, one day he may come to his senses, but she needs to focus on living her life and raising her precious babies regardless of Thomas’ behavior–good or bad. Preach! Kathryn recognizes that T-Rav went fifty years without having children, so she knows it has to be a tough adjustment.

Speaking of, at Thomas‘ Edisto plantation, he and JD are sipping bourbon and discussing the future. JD is shocked to learn that Kathryn is being induced on Monday. Should he be excited for his friend or suspicious that Kathryn maybe moved up her due date? He wonders if a paternity test is in order. Thomas has wanted a son for so long, regardless, it’s his child.

Downtown, Craig and Naomie are having a date night at Amen Street (delicious), and he’s ready to let go of his theory about Whitney feeling scorned by Kathryn (even though he’s still convinced it’s true) in order to make the trek to Los Angeles. Naomie is concerned when she learns that Craig will be missing the days leading up to their big bourbon launch. Isn’t he supposed to be doing everything he can to ensure the event goes smoothly? Craig has done everything JD’s asked, and he’ll be back in time for the launch. He shouldn’t be expected to jump in and fix last minute hiccups–he’s checked off everything on JD’s list. Plus, with JD treating him more like an intern and less like a partner, why does it matter? Naomie isn’t convinced, and Craig admits he’s trying hard to justify it to himself.

Landon Clements and Cameran Eubanks are taking a candle-making class. Landon shares her plans for her online travel magazine, but Cameran wants to know more about her love life. Dishing on the dating scene, Landon relays how difficult it is. She knows what she wants, and there isn’t any point wasting her time by dating guys she knows aren’t her type. Amen. Preach, sister! Cameran cuts to the chase. Is Landon having a hard time finding a new suitor because she has a crush on Shep? Landon pauses for a split second before blushing…yes, she may have considered pursuing a relationship with Shep, but she doesn’t want to ruin their friendship. She confesses that it’s been difficult to see Shep get more serious with Bailey. If he’s finally ready to grow up and settle down, why can’t it be with her?

Shep and Whitney have arrived at Whitney’s home in Los Angeles. Craig worries that things will be awkward, and Whitney is doing everything in his power to make Craig squirm. Shep hits the shower to give Whitney and Craig the chance to chat. Craig apologizes, and before accepting, Whitney ticks off all the ways Hashtag New Craig isn’t as entertaining as Old Craig. It’s Craig’s first time in LA, and Larissa is ready to party. Shep wonders if he’s dressed too fratty. A blazer, rumpled button-down and a trucker cap? No way! It’s not like he’s wearing boat shoes with no socks and a nautical flag embroidered belt with this get-up…at least not that we’ve seen! As the group hits up a party, Whitney poo poos Shep’s game with the ladies. His Gomer Pyle shtick may work on the sixes of Charleston who are over-served and out past midnight, but it isn’t going to work on the discerning ladies of Los Angeles. Guess what, Whitney? He’s got a camera following him around because he’s on a hit Bravo show. I’m betting he gets a little something…

Or not. The next morning, Whitney cites the vomit in his drive-way as the sign of a successful night. After waking his guests, both Whitney and Craig ponder whether Shep got lucky. Maybe with Hand Solo! Shep joins them in the kitchen, and he’s alone. Hey, even MVPs have an off night now and then! Back in Charleston, JD is talking to a spirits distributor who is supposed to be coordinating with Craig for the the Charleston Cup event. She hasn’t heard from Craig all week, so JD decides to intervene. Unfortunately, Craig’s voicemail is full, so JD has to go through Shep. What in the world? Shep has never had a full voicemail! Craig isn’t worried. He’s heading back to Charleston the following day, and he’s sure everything will be fine. Shep believes people take work far too seriously. You and me both, Shepspeare. You and me both.

Thomas takes Kathryn to SIP. While he can tell that she’s nervous and overwhelmed, he fields calls from his decorator who needs him to make some serious decisions. Kathryn wishes she was as much of a priority as his paint colors. She confides that this pregnancy is scarier for her because, after the birth, she won’t be going home with Thomas and their new baby. She’ll be going home alone with their new baby…and a toddler. He is hesitant to leave her in such a fragile state, and she recalls just how big T-Rav’s heart is. Her anxiety passes, and he’s free to go pick out crown molding.

On the west coast, Craig has ordered an in-home massage. Shep finds his friend’s need for constant pampering ridiculous, but he’ll stick around to watch because the masseuse is hot. Both guys are pleased at how well the trip went. The bros are back and the bromance is intact. However, the following day, not back where he’s supposed to be is Craig. JD is peeved that Craig has neglected to assist with the set-up for the Charleston Cup bourbon launch and has instead slept in after his whirlwind visit to LA. He describes Craig as the guy who always comes to the pool party but never offers to help clean the pool.

Cameran receives a call from Landon who wants to make sure she’ll be attending the event. Next, Landon dials Shep who reveals that his grandfather has passed away so he’ll be heading to Alabama for the service. I don’t care what y’all say–despite his Peter Pan mentality and penchant for funneling beers and meaningless hook-ups, I think Shep is a real sweetheart. The sentiments he shares about his grandfather are heartwarming and genuine. It’s a chilly day at the races, and Cameran questions Craig’s whereabouts (and everyone questions Landon’s outfit choice–it’s stylish, but hardly weather appropriate. This isn’t springtime at the Carolina Cup. Put on some jeans and stay warm!).

Craig is hungover on a bus with Naomie, Landon, Jennifer, and Danni who is spouting off distillery facts. She needs to replace Hashtag New Craig at Gentry bourbon. Stat. As Cameran so directly states, Hashtag New Craig has morphed into Old Craig, who didn’t even have the luxury of a hashtag. When JD gets up to welcome his guests, he pointedly thanks all of his partners except for Craig. When it comes time for Craig to approach his partner/boss, JD decides to lecture him instead of ripping off his head. Craig feels played, but he notes that JD’s business was his means to return to Charleston, not his forever job.

The night before Kathryn is set to give birth, Thomas is eating with his little family. Could Kensie be any more adorable? Thomas asks Kathryn if she wants him to spend the night, but she’s content with him picking her up early the next morning. T-Rav and Kathryn share some very tender moments as they discuss their growing family and the drama they’ve endured (and created!) up to this point. As horribly flawed as they are, it’s evident the couple still radiates a lot of love (and a ton of cray-cray). Kathryn is a bundle of nerves when Thomas arrives to take her to the hospital. The precious St. Julien Rembert Ravenel makes his debut, and Thomas shares a touching moment when he tells his newborn son not to make the mistakes he’s made. Someone watching and blogging may have gotten a tad teary about it, but I won’t name names.

TELL US – WHAT DID YOU THINK OF LAST NIGHT’S EPISODE? IS CRAIG REVERTING BACK TO HIS OLD, LAZY WAYS? HOW SWEET WERE KATHRYN AND THOMAS WITH THEIR NEW ADDITION?
