Kristen Doute On How She’s Changed And Why This Season Of Vanderpump Rules Is Her Favorite

Kristen Doute

Kristen Doute swears she is a whole new girl, and because of that, this season of Vanderpump Rules is her favorite one yet. Considering how every other season has literally been in the toilet of the SUR bathroom for Kristen, I can’t imagine how things could get any worse?

According to Kristen, season five “feels like a throwback to season one with everyone being back together.”

Kristen insists she has learned from her mistakes. “It was a huge wake up call seeing this stuff on TV,” she describes. Unfortunately, many fans are “still stuck on ‘Crazy Kristen’ and ‘Why are you trying to stalk Tom Sandoval and trying to break up Ariana and Tom?’ It’s like, that was four years ago!” laments Kristen. “There’s been a change.”

“I’m not proud of all of the decisions that I’ve made, but I think that it really was for the benefit of all of us when I lost a lot of my friends a couple of years ago, because it put me in a rock bottom place,” Kristen explains. “I had to take a hard look at myself and become more self-aware. With that, I was able to make healthier changes for myself, which has resulted in getting these friendships back.”

I find it kind of hilarious that for Kristen and most of the Vanderpump Rules cast their focus on friendships and maintaining the status quo of the group is everything, so achieving that, they feel they’re mature and grown-up. Anyway…

Anyway, although her friendships are “back,” Kristen promises they’re better and different.

One relationship that has certainly gone through the ringer is Kristen’s friendship with Stassi Schroeder. “It definitely took some time, and we started talking little-by-little a couple of years ago, eventually when she was able to really get over Jax and not care about him anymore and become self-aware in her own place, she was able to then forgive me. I’m grateful that it worked out.”

Even Kristen’s relationship with Lisa Vanderpump has improved – finally! Noting that she and Lisa are “both stubborn,” Kristen believes getting fired was “the healthiest thing that could’ve happened for both Lisa and I.”

“It was just becoming very tough for me, and it made it even tougher for Lisa, because she had to deal with the backlash of my actions,” she acknowledges. “But I’ve grown up, and I have the utmost respect for Lisa.”

All that lovey-dovey stuff is nice, but we just want to know what’s up with the drama this season. And does Kristen continue to have issues with Tom and Ariana?

Kristen dishes that “a lot of relationships between the core cast that are going to be interesting for the viewers.”

“I don’t want to give too much away,” she continues, “but people are going to be talking to each other that you might not totally expect. I also think the guys cried more this season than the girls.” Kristen reveals that the Toms cry the most – of course – and “there were more, like, guy-fights. It was kind of strange.”

Of course there is still drama with James and Lala, which we’ve already gotten a glimpse of. “We kind of really stood strong and banded together to protect each other from them,” Kristen tells AOL. “I made it my personal mission to be Katie’s bodyguard.”

Kristen’s boyfriend Carter will also be a big part of the show, and their relationship is still stable. “For him, it was kind of a crazy thing to have to jump into. He’s known most of the cast for so many years, though — I was probably one of the only people he didn’t already know — and I think that made it a lot easier for him. It was not like he was hanging out with a bunch of strangers on camera.”

She also swears that fame hasn’t impacted her outlook – or anyone else’s. “We’re still the same people,” insists Kristen. “We’re all so honest, and not all reality shows are ‘real.’ Our show is really the only one that, I feel, is completely genuine.”

“We weren’t cast,” adds Kristen. She has been surprised and happy by how invested fans have become to the relationships. “And, listen, we put ourselves out there, and we know what to expect: People are going to have opinions, but it’s nice when people are able to realize we aren’t one-dimensional and that you don’t see everything on the show.”
