Kyle Richards Explains Why It’s Important To Address Racial Justice On Reality Housewives

If you’ve been paying attention to Bravo, you will already know that there has been a reckoning of sorts. Years and years of watching these shows have jaded me into thinking that they are no longer actually real. But with the changing social climate in our country, reality TV is finally showing a very real side of life today – racial injustice.

From cast members of Vanderpump Rules being fired for being racially insensitive, to Tiffany Moon educating her castmates on Real Housewives of Dallas, Bravo has finally started to show what racial issues look like for the bravolebrities they are putting on our screens. And surprisingly, this season of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills has given us one of the most poignant conversations surrounding race.

Kyle Richards and then-newbie Garcelle Beauvais had a rough start of a relationship last season. It ended with Kyle accusing Garcelle of not paying up after winning a bid at Kyle’s charity auction. Garcelle of course, took issue with this and took the time this season to explain to Kyle why this was so problematic. Thankfully, Kyle listened. And looks like she has a take away from the experience too.

Kyle recently told Digital Spy, “I was really happy to have that conversation. I wanted to hear what she had to say, and I wanted to really listen. I always, I liked Garcelle, so for me, having that conversation, it meant a lot to me.”

She continued, “I was very moved by some of the things she shared for me and I was just happy. I know that some of the audience sometimes says, ‘Oh, we don’t want to hear about that stuff on the show.’ Some people love it, and some people say they don’t want to hear it. But, that’s what’s happening [in the world].” I’m not gonna lie, I’m surprised Kyle is showing this much depth on the issue. Because it IS what’s happening in the world. Even in a place as privileged as Beverly Hills.

Kyle concluded, “This is a reality show, it’s not scripted. We’re going on what’s really going on in the world, and with us. These things have to be addressed.”

As for where she stands with Garcelle, Kyle revealed that all is good. She said, “We’re great, we’re in a really good place. I really felt that both of us, after that conversation, were ready to start from scratch and just enjoy each other, and have fun, and that’s what we did.”

DO YOU THINK KYLE HAS LEARNED FROM HER CONVERSATION WITH GARCELLE? DO YOU THINK IT’S IMPORTANT FOR BRAVO TO TALK ABOUT RACIAL INJUSTICE?
