Why RHOBH Season 13 Is Frustrating Fans

Not every season of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills is going to be a hit—that’s all part of the game. But there is something about RHOBH Season 13 that just isn’t landing with long-time viewers. Between Dorit Kemsley bringing a ladle to stir the pot at every get together, Kyle Richards’ possible lesbian courtship, and Erika Jayne being friendly all in the name of Lent, things are just getting plain weird.

Kyle and Mo’s Breakup Is Sad

Love her or hate her, when the RHOBH Season 13 trailer dropped in October, it was definitely heartbreaking to see that the main storyline would be about Kyle’s possible divorce from Mauricio Umansky. In the trailer, Kyle told Erika, “Complete strangers are saying you made us believe in true love, and now it’s all …”

The trailer left many unanswered questions, making the entire premiere tense for viewers. The last interaction fans saw during the trailer was the introduction of Morgan Wade and Mo. “I’m just glad it’s you out there having an affair,” Mauricio noted, with Kyle retorting, “For once, it’s me.” I mean, what is going on there? We are several episodes in, and the question still remains—are the couple of 27 years getting divorced, and is it because of Morgan? I am over waiting for the answer.

The Season 13 Cast Isn’t Meshing

I didn’t believe that losing Lisa Rinna or Kathy Hilton would make such an impact, but we gotta face facts, the current cast isn’t meshing at all. From the get-go, the Las Vegas Magic Mike Show felt awkward. Sutton Stracke’s meltdown over her friends enjoying what a lot of men enjoy on Sin City trips was absurd. Then, the dinner after the adult dance show was plain boring. Where is the spark?

Frankly, it doesn’t feel like anyone from the cast’s heart is in it. It seems that every single RHOBH star is going through the motions. The ladies may be having a tough time behind the scenes. Sutton is breaking down, Dorit is struggling with PTSD, Garcelle Beauvais is dealing with her teenage sons not needing her, Erika is pushing for a Las Vegas residency, and Crystal Kung Minkoff, well, Crystal, I always forget about, but I think she is dealing with guilt for ruining her brother’s engagement?

Bravo Needs To Stick to Original Formula

There is no denying that Bravo has strayed from its original format of having real friends star together on the 90210 series. For fans, it is hard to ignore that some of the women don’t have relationships with each other outside the show. For example, Kyle not confiding in Sutton about her marital issues is a huge sign they don’t trust one another. I would go as far as to claim that Kyle and Sutton had more of a landlord/tenant relationship.

Crystal and Garcelle are more superficial friends. I also now understand why 14 friends stopped talking to Crystal—spoiler alert, she is boring. Season 13 fails to show the women with authentic friendships and does a disservice to the series since these special connections are what made the RHOBH a cult classic to begin with. The hiring and firing of clout chasers is not working for the new season.

Are We Watching Robots or People?

Like some other franchises, many followers are wondering if the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills is in need of a total revamp. A lot of these women (I’m looking at you, Dorit) have become extremely mechanical and are hyper-aware of the Bravo cameras. Season 13 is a prime example, with Dorit constantly stirring the pot as she throws Sutton under the bus in front of women the group doesn’t know. The feeling of this season has become serious, and it is coming across as stiff in regards to good storylines.

Sadly, I believe the overall consensus is that most fans are just not buying into the current season. Personally, I don’t need a play-by-play of Erika’s relationship with her mother and how everyone thinks she deserves her comeback. I need more of Sutton’s dating life. It might be an unpopular opinion, but I’d like to hear what Crystal has to say, except producers keep editing out her opinions or replies. I ask you—how many times can we watch Erika and her glam team?

At this point, I am just tuning in for Garcelle because she is real, has an uncanny ability to read her cast members, and is hilarious.
