Pump Rules Exec Producer Alex Baskin on Why He Wishes Scandoval ‘Never Happened’

It is no secret that Vanderpump Rules was on shaky ground after Season 9 aired. But Bravo gifted the show a tenth season, hoping that Pump Rules could recapture the magic. Well, Season 10 brought us Scandoval, thanks to Tom Sandoval and Rachel Leviss’ affair. Cameras picked back up to record cast reactions and the fiery Season 10 reunion. So, if Scandoval increased ratings and gave the show two Emmy nominations, why would executive producer Alex Baskin wish that the scandal never happened?

Alex said that Season 10 of Pump Rules could stand on its own merits

Alex was a guest on VPR star Lala Kent’s podcast, Give Them Lala. So, Lala went there. She asked Alex why he called Scandoval “the worst thing that ever happened” to the show.

“Contrary to what certain people in certain quarters have said of that controversy saving the show, the truth is we were making a great show in Season 10. In fact, we had made a great season,” Alex explained. “It was a bounce-back season and the audience was into it.”

Yes, Season 10 was an improvement and had some of the old-school Pump Rules vibe. But to say that Scandoval wasn’t the cherry on top is odd.

“I felt like there is a danger in burning too fast and too brightly. I also thought, ‘That is the one thing to happen to this group that has threatened to tear everyone apart,'” he said. “Everything else has been something we were able to overcome and I didn’t know that we could put the pieces back together.” He had moments of yearning that Scandoval “never happened.” Again, I find that weird.

“[My opinion] could [change] and [there were] other things that have come out of it like The Valley,” Alex said of the spinoff. “It may or may not have happened if there wasn’t that momentum. Things change in unexpected ways. But that is the way for a while that I felt and that is still my analysis,” he added.

Vanderpump Rules Season 11 continues Tuesdays at 8/7c on Bravo.

TELL US – DO YOU THINK IT IS ODD THAT ALEX BASKIN WISHED THAT SCANDOVAL “NEVER HAPPENED?” WILL SEASON 11 OF VPR LIVE UP TO THE HYPE?
