Joe Giudice Isn’t Helping Pay for Daughter’s College, but Luis Ruelas Is

Longtime viewers of Real Housewives of New Jersey might be feeling a little old lately, given that several of the Gorga and Giudice kids we’ve watched grow up have been heading off to college one by one.

Sunday’s episode saw Teresa Giudice’s daughter, Gabriella Giudice, gearing up to leave the nest and head to college. In a confessional spliced between Gabriella talking about her chosen career path and FaceTiming with her dad, Joe Giudice, Teresa casually dropped the tidbit that her ex-husband won’t be chipping in to pay for his daughter’s education. However, Teresa shared that her now-husband, Luis Ruelas, will be.

Teresa on Gabriella’s college expenses: “Joe’s not helping.”

During the May 19 episode, Luis and Teresa looked on as Gia Giudice and Gabriella FaceTimed Joe. They chatted about Gabriella’s plan to study economics at The University of Michigan.

Gabriella told her dad, “I’m excited. I’m taking an economics course first semester, so I’m excited to learn about that because that’s what I’m planning on majoring in.”

“She’s gonna handle your finances, dad. She’ll make sure everything’s stored away, Gia added.

As we know, Joe’s finances have a storied past. He and Teresa both ended up serving time in prison for bank, mail, wire, and bankruptcy fraud. She only served about a year. However, he served three AND was deported to his native Italy. He now lives in the Bahamas.

In a confessional, a producer asked Teresa if Joe will be contributing to Gabriella’s tuition. The answer was a clear “no.”

Teresa (uncharacteristically) calmly answered, “Joe’s not helping. He can’t right now.”

She added, “Joe’s still trying to get his life together in the Bahamas, but it’s okay. I’m thankful I can pay for it.”

When asked if Luis would be helping with his (allegedly questionably sourced) money, she offered a simple “yes.” Maybe his savings on those allegedly fake Cartier bracelets was a smart financial decision, after all.

Considering that we’ve seen Teresa have full-on rages about seemingly insignificant things like sprinkle cookies and being told to “pay attention, puh-lease,” her response to her children’s father not pitching in for college was very placid. If we didn’t know any better, it would look like she’s growing up too!

Season 14 of The Real Housewives of New Jersey continues Sundays at 8/7c. on Bravo.
