The Hills: New Beginnings is the perfect nostalgia for millennials who grew up watching Lauren Conrad and Kristin Cavallari take turns dating Brody Jenner. Kardashian who? Brody was famous from The Hills long before Kylie Jenner became a self-made billionaire. It’s been fun watching Brody, Audrina Patridge, Heidi Pratt, Spencer Pratt, and Jason Wahler play act some scripted reality this season.
Brody’s current story on The Hills revolves around the disintegration of his marriage to Kaitlynn Carter. They married in 2018 and enjoyed having three-ways until, well, Kaitlynn didn’t anymore. They divorced in 2019. Kaitlynn was spotted making out with Miley Cyrus a week later. Both parties have since moved on. Brody is pursuing Audrina like a middle-schooler and Kaitlynn is dating Kristopher Brock. She’s also very pregnant, which Brody has thoughts about.
There aren’t enough crystals in the world to calm Spencer Pratt’s ego. The Pratt Daddy Crystal maven has to be one of the most ridiculous reality TV villains of all time, (that’s a sincere compliment). Spencer knew from day one of his time on The Hills how to push people’s buttons – just ask Lauren Conrad who literally ran from the hills to get away from him.
Now, on The Hills: New Beginnings, Audrina Patridge, Brody Jenner, Justin Bobby Brescia, Jason Wahler, and Brandon Lee are all thinking they need to do the same thing. Spencer and wife, Heidi Pratt, have made everyone mad because they doubted Jason’s sobriety. Sure, it’s a horrible thing to do, but, if it wasn’t for this one remark about Jason’s sobriety, the show would have zero drama. Now, Spencer’s letting his co-stars know who’s bringing it and who isn’t.
My favorite weeknights are Wednesdays. This is because I get a double dose of BH drama with Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and The Hills: New Beginnings. The latter brings me back to my teens with a potent shot of nostalgia – particularly whenever Brody Jenner and Audrina Patridge are on screen. Will they, or won’t they? Please do something more than flirt like you never left high school!
At this point though, I’ll take the nostalgia over RHOBH’s lack of anything interesting right now. Not much even happens on The Hills: New Beginnings– the drama is vague and dulled by everyone’s laid back California vibe. I still watch with glee, especially because insane characters and crystal moguls Heidi Pratt and Spencer Pratt seemingly live on another planet. Brody even seems to know that not much ever happens on the show – which is why he’s calling for Kristin Cavallari to come back full-time.
We can’t cover every news story ourselves. Fortunately, there are a lot of great sources for reality TV news and gossip. Check out these links from some of our favorite sites in the April 14 edition of Tuesday Morning Tea.
Mischa Barton as a cast member on The Hills: New Beginnings was a random plant to begin with. She wasn’t part of the original crew, or spouse of an OG Hills cast member. And it was unclear from the start what her connection really was with the rest of the group. She had a friendship with a few of the girls but no intertwining story line. Mischa’s only noteworthy moment was confronting Perez Hilton for his body-shaming campaign against her many years before she joined this show.
So perhaps it comes as no surprise that Mischa is rumored to be replaced by Caroline D’Amore, aka DJ D’Amore. Or simply, a pizza heiress. Mischa denied any firing and threw some shade at Caroline in a spirited IG post. Now, costars Spencer Pratt and Heidi Pratt are coming to Mischa’s defense claiming that she belongs on the show.
Back in the day, The Hills was Lauren Conrad’s show. This makes sense since it was her spin-off from the popular MTV show Laguna Beach. She was the narrator. It was Lauren’s world and everyone else was just living in it.
When Lauren cut ties with bestie Heidi Montag because she didn’t like Heidi’s now-husband Spencer Pratt, most of the cast followed suit. After all, they wanted to stay on The Hills, right? Soon, the show will be back for a reboot
because it’s 2019 and no one makes original content anymore called The Hills: New Beginnings. A lot of the show’s original stars will be back, but not Lauren. She’s too busy living her best life and racking in the cash with her lifestyle brand. She has zero interest in returning to the show that propelled her into reality TV stardom and it’s not as if she needs a paycheck unlike the rest of them.
TGIF, Reality Tea readers! We have a new photo gallery for you to kick off the weekend. Shahs of Sunset stars MJ Javid and Tommy Feight got glammed up for the 2018 Make A Wish Gala in Beverly Hills. The parents-to-be recently revealed that they have decided on a unisex baby name and that their new bundle of joy is due to arrive on Mother’s Day next year.
Former Southern Charm star Landon Clements hit up the red carpet this week, attending the Sixth Annual UNICEF Masquerade Ball in Los Angeles.
Erika Jayne and Andy Cohen made appearances on The View. Erika performed as part of a birthday celebration for View co-host Meghan McCain, who is a huge Bravo/Erika Jayne fan, and has appeared on WWHL several times.
Also spotted this week: Yolanda Hadid, Kandi Burruss, and more!
I have always supported The Hills reboot, but I can’t help feeling confusion every time there’s additional casting news. How is this a “reality show” when there are just (seemingly) random people thrown in on top of some original cast members who are in touch for the first time in years?
Of course, Brody Jenner, Spencer Pratt, Heidi Montag, Audrina Patridge, Whitney Port, and other cast members from the show’s original run are on board, but some of the additions just seem so random. Mischa Barton will be on the show. There were rumblings that Kyle Massey is set to join the cast. Now the son of some pretty famous exes will be on The Hills as well.
