It’s been almost a year and a half since we first laid eyes on the Season 1 cast of 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way — one of the TLC producers’ more recent attempts to max out this cash cow of a reality series. In this spinoff, viewers followed Americans as they fell in love with foreigners and decided to give up their entire lives to move to their partner’s country instead of bringing them to the US to secure the coveted green card and chase the American dream.
Florida resident Laura Jallali fell deeply in love with much younger Tunisian hunk Aladin Jallali who was a personal trainer living in Qatar at the time. Throwing caution to the wind, Laura packed up her suitcases and left her Floridian home and adult son in the dust as she headed across the pond to live happily ever after in the world’s richest country to spend her golden years getting endless amounts of jiggy jiggy (also known as SEX) with with her husband to be. But, alas- in a tale as old as time we’ve come to recognize among couples within the 90 Day Fiancé series and its spin-offs- all that glitters is never gold, it seems.
In a tale as old as time, a pair of moms are going head-to-head on social media once again! In one corner of the ring, we have Laura Jallali– a fifty-something divorcee and 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way alum who left her child and Floridian life behind to move across the world on a quest for true love and some top-quality “jiggy jiggy.” In the other corner, we have Nicole Nafziger– a twenty-something young mother and 90 Day Fiance alum who left her child and Floridian life behind to travel across the world on a quest for true love and top-quality forbidden PDA. Wait, what?
You read that right. The ladies- who have eerily similar backstories- didn’t mince words on when addressing one another on Instagram recently. Nicole has never really been one to spend much of her valuable time addressing her plethora of haters, but Laura’s comment on her photo of May (and overall irony of the entire situation) certainly didn’t go unnoticed.
If I’m being honest, Laura Jallali is not one of my 90 Day Fiance favorites. When we were first introduced to her on 90 Day Fiance The Other Way, I was side-eyeing her from the get-go. I can look past her 20 year age difference from finance-turned-husband, Aladin Jallali. To each their own, right? But considering they were only dating 8 months and Laura’s son Liam strongly disapproved, fans weren’t wrong to be skeptical. Liam warned us that Laura wasn’t great at choosing healthy relationships and boy, was he right.
It was a little surprise to
almost all of us that they broke up not long after the wedding. Aladin accused her of catfishing him and cheating. Laura accused him of using her for money and blamed the show for their break up. The tell all was a damn trainwreck to say the least. I could have told you these two would have issues the second she threw her vibrator away for him. But I wasn’t expecting this level of drama!
It can be difficult to find anything likeable about some of the cast members on 90 Day Fiance. However, I always try to pinpoint something positive in each of them. Colt Johnson could counsel you on issues you might have with your mother, as he is closely–maybe a little too closely–bonded with his own mother, Debbie Johnson. Laura Jallali is a bit thirsty and foolish, but she would be a fantastic resource for sex toy questions. Darcey Silva is needy, whiny and neurotic, but she probably would be great fun to shop for engagement rings with.
Sometimes 90 Day Fiance cast members stretch the likability limits to the max. Case in point–Tania Maduro. Things started off OK–Tania seemed like an energetic, idealistic character who lived life to the fullest. In the ensuing weeks, we found out she is…well, full of something. Unrealistic, self-absorbed and pushy are a few words that come to mind for her. In this week’s episode, Tania revealed that she was leaving her South African fiancé Syngin Colchester to go study herbs in Costa Rica. For a month. Not surprisingly with Tania, there is a little more to this story than is apparent at first glance.
We have made it through the first season of 90 Day Fiance: The Other Way. Like other shows in the franchise, this version lured me in and got me hooked. I might not have learned anything and my IQ might be 10 points lower for having watched, but boy it was fun. Quality television that delivers!
Out of all the couples on the show, Deavan Clegg and Jihoon Lee were arguably the most likeable and relatable. Sure, they made some bad decisions, like getting pregnant immediately after meeting, but both seemed to have their hearts, if not their decision-making skills in the right place. One thing I could not figure out during the season was why Deavan was moving to South Korea when she had a job and family in the U.S., while Jihoon was struggling to get by. Deavan recently revealed how she came to the decision to move and her purported reasons behind it are both sad and shocking.
Laura Jallali has joined a bevy of 90 Day Fiance ladies that lured their younger partners in under seemingly false pretenses. Laura, Rebecca, and Angela Deem all admitted to catfishing their men initially with outdated photos, filters, and all the best image-enhancing technology that exists.
Us 90 Day Fiance junkies were able to witness Zied and Michael Ilesanmi’s reaction as they met their significant others for the first time. But what about Aladin Jallali? He had already seen Laura in person, married, and consummated the union with a bit of short-lived and unsatisfying jiggy-jiggy, according to her. Actually, most of what we know about this couple is based on what Laura has said. She was the more vocal of the two at the “Couples Tell-All” reunion while Aladin admitted to struggling with the language and regretting not speaking through an interpreter. Finally, Aladin got a chance to share his side of the story by posting a series of videos on social media meant as a response to topics his ex-wife brought up on the show.
Well, the first season of 90 Day Fiance: The Other Way has wrapped up and I have a feeling we will be seeing more of the show in seasons to come. Having the Americans go to other countries, where they will conceivably live in the future put a new spin on the franchise. The cast checked all of the boxes for viewers: naivete, impulsivity and an utter disdain for common sense, personal dignity and conventional social behavior. In other words, good reality television!
Laura Jallali and her husband Aladin Jallali were a difficult couple to figure out. On the surface, they seemed completely mismatched. Aladin was a young, good looking personal trainer living in Qatar. Laura was a middle aged retiree living in Florida. Aladin was reserved and dignified, while Laura was a bit on the, shall we say, crass side. Why were they together? What was in it for them? Love? Fame? Attention? Of course, the ill-matched couple’s marriage quickly imploded and they had an ugly confrontation on the reunion show, with Laura in full victim mode.
Sadly, we have come to the end of the 90-Day Fiance: The Other Way season. Like the other 90 Day jewels, this new show promised as delivered. A veritable dumpster fire of romantic dysfunction that makes you wonder why people would ever agree to participate. It is oddly fascinating to watch cast members submit themselves to the possibility of public humiliation for love, desperation, fame wh*ring and/or a green card.
Laura Jallali is one of the stars of the show, along with her decades younger love Aladin Jallali. These two seeming opposites were difficult to figure out for most of the season. Was it love? Lust for retiree Laura? Opportunities for personal trainer Aladin? Who knows. We may never have the real answers as to why the couple paired up, but the two did manage to pull off a pretty spectacular on-camera wedding that put to shame most of the other 90 Day low-budget affairs. The Qatar couple’s marital bliss did not last for long, however, and now Laura is giving an update to her social media followers.
