Videos – Teen Mom Returns As ‘Teen Mom OG’ On March 23, But Things Will Be Very Different This Time!

Teen Mom returns as Teen Mom OG on March 23

Teen Mom, now catchily called “Teen Mom OG,”  is back! After an initial casting snafu – all the original members will be returning! That’s right Farrah Abraham‘s full-voltage delusion will return on a weekly basis starting March 23rd. I cannot wait!

Joining Farrah on the delusion train will be the other originals: Maci Bookout (now pregnant again), Catelynn Lowell (still waiting for Tyler to “commit” despite two engagements and a second baby), and Amber Portwood (who is managing sobriety since getting released from prison while Gary Shirley knocked-up another girl!).

In case you were wondering – “OG” stands for “Original Girls” – how creative. I bet portfolio of literacy excerpt Farrah came up with that, because like words are what she does. And stuff.

Interestingly, MTV is taking Teen Mom OG in a very different direction. For the first time MTV will highlight the girls’ relationships with the producers and crew, including what raising their children and growing-up on camera has been like and how the public’s involvement in their lives has shaped them as both people and parents. Considering what drastic turns both Farrah and Amber’s lives have been I think that is interesting. Amber has previously said she felt the show ruined her life – apparently she’s had a change of paycheck heart.

I’ve always, personally, found it frustrating how the show demonstrates the girls’ struggles but ignores a very pertinent aspect: income. These girls, while faced with many challenges, have far greater resources than other teen moms simply because the money a network like MTV wields. Almost none of these who have stayed in the TM franchise girls have gone on to forge careers outside of reality TV – particularly from the OG group. Without the income earned from MTV, these girls would be forced to get jobs – any jobs – to support their children.

The network describes the revamped series as giving viewers an “unprecedented look into these young mothers’ lives and how they’re facing the responsibilities of parenthood as their children enter kindergarten, start little league and reach other milestones of youth.”

Amber will struggle to reconnect with Leah after being in prison for two-years, and also re-adapt to co-parenting with Gary. Amber will also navigate sobriety and mental health issues as she dives into the world of dating and hopefully WORK. And dive right in she does when she accepts a proposal from a boyfriend she hasn’t known very long.

Maci has moved on from Ryan – finally – with new boyfriend Taylor, a recent transplant to Tennessee. Unfortunately shortly after they begin dating, Maci finds out she has learned nothing from her past mistakes, when she winds-up unexpectedly pregnant! Apparently Maci believed if you have poly-cystic ovarian (PCOS) you can’t get pregnant – or get STDs – so condoms?! What condoms?! What’s your name again?! The other thing that hasn’t changed in Maci’s life is co-parenting successfully with Ryan, who is still difficult to deal with and unreliable.

Catelynn and Tyler Baltierra maintain the status quo as they decide whether or not Tyler is committed to Catelynn and mope over giving Carly up for adoption, which has placed a tremendous strain on their relationship with Carly’s adoptive parents, a relationship which they are trying to mend.  After calling-off one engagement and appearing on Couples Therapy where Tyler basically said he didn’t love Catelynn, the two decide to have another baby. Oh and another engagement. This time they’re playing for keeps.

Finally Farrah, has made a mess of her life since diving into the adult entertainment industry, and with that has come struggles for both her parents and daughter Sophia. Farrah tries to mend her relationship with Debra, while avoiding making the same mistakes with Sophia that he mother made with her. And Farrah has finally found love – but it’s long-distance – and she is now forced to decide whether to move to California with her new boyfriend or stay in TX, which is Sophia’s home.

Remember the last time Farrah moved? And left Sophia with Debra and Mike – yeah, apparently this time she’s taking her daughter-thingy with her!

Teen Mom OG premieres on MTV on March 23rd at 10/9c. The answer to whether or not we’ll be watching is a rhetorical question!
