Braunwyn Windham-Burke Says Emily Simpson And Kelly Dodd Are Ingrained In Their Privilege

Y’all we did it. We made it through this season of Real Housewives of Orange County. This season included the co-pandemics of the Coronavirus and the country’s glaring issues of racial inequities. Being filmed during the beginnings of the pandemic shutdowns made this season much different from anything we’ve seen on Bravo before. For instance, it was also our first season without icky Vicki Gunvalson. The cast shake up and current events somehow shifted the focus all the way left to Braunwyn Windham-Burke.

The reunion trailer featured Braunwyn taking a beating from the other women. Not to mention they’ve all been trashing her since the season ended. Above all, it’s pretty obvious she is on the major outs with the cast.

In an interview with VultureBraunwyn was asked about sharing her Black Lives Matter activism with the other women. In addition, she was asked if she found their responses to her protesting illuminating. She did not mince words.

Braunwyn shared “Talking to Gina [Kirschenheiter was] amazing, and that’s what you want to happen. You want someone who — like me, like Gina — didn’t really realize what’s going on to go, Okay, I get it; what can I do? I want to do whatever I can.”

Braunwyn continued, “Talking to Kelly [Dodd]’s like talking to a wall. It’s painful. Talking to Emily [Simpson], like a wall. They are so ingrained in their white privilege that they can’t even see another side to it.” Of course, no one is surprised to hear Kelly has been ignorant to the logic behind Braunwyn’s protest efforts. Similarly, even Heather Dubrow called for Kelly’s cancellation; she’s been so problematic lately.

And Braunwyn didn’t stop there. She added, “Kelly throws out, “Well, I’m Mexican.” Well, you’re awarded all the privileges of a white person. When you were arrested, you were let out. That wouldn’t have happened if you were a Black woman, let’s be honest.”

After that, Braunwyn shared, “When I go to the beach, I’m surrounded by Trump signs. So was I surprised? No. Was I disheartened? Absolutely. Did it make me question why I live here and why I raise my children here? Yes. I think Kelly and Emily are pretty indicative of how most people feel here.”

However, it will be interesting to see how things shake out for Braunwyn if she returns next season. She is certainly in a league all her own with these women.
