If we did a 2020 year in review, it would pretty much suck. At times we were forced to cling to tiny nuggets of shade just to make it through the day. Thankfully, we have Real Housewives of New York because they definitely get into some… confrontations. Leah McSweeney made her debut last year and she had a breakout season. While not everyone enjoyed Leah, she did have some interesting moments that she probably doesn’t remember.
Leah developed a unique relationship with Ramona Singer. Ramona appeared almost maternal to Leah, until her flying vagina made an impromptu appearance at an event Ramona was hosting. The two verbally battled for most of the season, but Ramona battles with everyone because that’s what Ramona does. Ramona’s reputation precedes her and she isn’t known for being terribly considerate or polite. That’s probably why the nickname Leah gave her is suitable for more than one occasion.
For the most part, pretty much nothing happened during the most recent season of Real Housewives of New York. Dorinda Medley belittled Tinsley Mortimer until Tinsley quit in the middle of the season. Leah McSweeney got wasted and threw tiki torches, raviolis, and whatever else she could pick up (and toss) for attention. She’s currently sober, so, it’s fair to assume that she will not be throwing objects next season.
But, what were the actual storylines? Yes, these women are so funny, but there was really nothing happening. No wonder they decided to shake up the cast. Elyse Slaine will not be back to continue her feud with Ramona Singer. Dorinda got fired after a season with very few redeeming moments. Eboni K. Williams was hired as the first Black cast member in Real Housewives of New York history. And, now it seems like Heather “Holla” Thomson might be back. Or at the very least it seems like she filmed a lunch scene with Luann de Lesseps and Ramona.
Former Real Housewives of New York cast member Barbara Kavovit lasted one season in her “friend of” role for Luann de Lesseps. Barbara was a staunch defender of Luann, when most of the cast had given up on her at the time. Unfortunately for Barbara, she just couldn’t quite make it work with most of the ladies, ahem…Ramona Singer and Dorinda Medley. She even ended up losing her friendship with Luann. Sadly, Luann confirmed they are still on the outs during the last episode of the season 12 reunion when she agreed Barbara was a one hit wonder like Elyse Slaine.
Even though Barbara and Luann had a falling out, Barbara shared she still keeps in touch with former castmates Bethenny Frankel and Tinsley Mortimer. In the end, the construction business mogul was probably too normal and nice for the cast. Being the voice of reason on the show doesn’t get you far. After she left the show, Barbara kept herself busy demolishing the old offices of Harvey Weinstein. And now, Barbara announced she is up for a new challenge. One that is quite a bit tougher than being a cast member of the RHONY.
High fives all around! We have officially made it through season 12 of Real Housewives of New York. It’s hard to remember that we are even still in a season 12 moment after so much cast-chatter about next season. Elyse Slaine has said she won’t be back. Not sure who was asking, but alright. More importantly, we will all be spared from Dorinda Medley’s chaos next year. Watching her endlessly complain about Tinsley Mortimer being fake while trying to avoid her obvious substance issues was…disorienting. To say the least.
Moving on. For better or worse, Ramona Singer has confirmed her return to season 13. Fans have also been waiting in suspense over the return of Leah McSweeney.
Elyse Slaine appeared on Real Housewives of New York listed as a “friend” of Ramona Singer’s. However, she soon realized that “friend” label was far from true. Ramona ditched Elyse, accused her of not being a “girl’s girl,” walked away from her at Leah McSweeney’s party, called her a “black widow,” and she agreed with Andy Cohen at the reunion when he referred to her as the “new Barbara K,” referring to Barbara Kavovit’s fall out with longtime friend Luann de Lesseps.
Normally, being a Friend of the Housewives is a great gig. They get the perks of being on the show without some of the drawbacks. However, Elyse wasn’t on the cast trip to Mexico and she didn’t get to share her side of the story during the reunion. As result, she started spilling the tea on social media.
Even though Real Housewives of New York Season 12 just ended, fans are already looking ahead to Season 13, specifically in regard to casting. Tinsley Mortimer left in the middle of Season 12. Dorinda Medley got fired after a rough season belittling Tinsley, reminding Luann de Lesseps that she has a mugshot, and refusing to listen to anyone who disagrees with her.
Leah McSweeney held off on filming Season 13, hoping to get a pay raise for her second season. It’s unclear exactly what happened in terms of dollar amounts, but Leah did confirm that she will be back for another season. Elyse Slaine, who isn’t technically a cast member, shared that she will not be on the show next season. So, that leaves Ramona Singer, Sonja Morgan, and Luann de Lesseps. What’s going on with them?
Wowowowow. These Real Housewives of New York reunion episodes are already making me question if I can live without these ladies in the coming months. I mean, except for Elyse Slaine who, despite her best efforts, was a total bust. Rest easy. She won’t be back.
After Bethenny Frankel dipped the night before filming for season 12 began, I think we’re all on edge about next year. So far we know that Dorinda Medley is “taking a pause.” Whatever that means. Better yet, Leah McSweeney will be returning. She may have secured a well-deserved pay raise too. From the sounds of it, we will be seeing her for season 13 with some heavy pockets and…a new face?
Real Housewives of New York fans weren’t ever given a proper introduction to Elyse Slaine. She just sort of kept popping up during Season 12 and was listed as “Ramona Singer’s friend.”
