As more and more Below Deck cast members progress through different stages of land-life, us fans will be able to reconnect with some familiar faces. And isn’t it nice to see some happy, ecstatic brides-to-be or pregnancy bumps on social media? But most alums slip from our minds, like Below Deck Mediterranean Season One deck hand Danny Zureikat, being hauled off on a donkey after a disastrous performance onboard. Of course, production likely prefers casting fresh faces each season. Especially with lower ranking staff, it’s one season and done with most of them.
Such was Brooke Laughton’s tenure on Below Deck Mediterranean. She joined the crew as a very capable second stew in Season 3. Brooke and Chief Stew Hannah Ferrier got along rather well until she started crushing on Joao Franco and Hannah ducked out of work responsibilities to smoke ciggies with Bosun Conrad Empson. Third Stew Kasey Cohen also had her eye on Joao and a rather sloppy love triangle resulted. Happier days were waiting for Brooke after she left the show, and just this week, she shared some very special news.
As sure as Below Deck viewers can expect crew hookups and boat romances, there’s interior crew drama. The chief stew sets the tone for each season. Kate Chastain was a natural at antagonizing her staff and Hannah Ferrier always bemoaned a green stewardess. Better to be passive aggressive than train your team. Madison Stalker was subjected to massive PDA by her chief stew Jenna MacGillivray and Chef Adam Glick.
And now that Katie Flood has taken over as chief stew on Below Deck Mediterranean, it’s just inevitable that she will have some push back from one, if not two of her stewardesses. Usually a subordinate has an issue with authority, doesn’t get her job done, or just wants to gaze at the stars with her sweetheart in the style of Elizabeth Frankini.
Friction between chefs and chief stews is not a new phenomenon in the Below Deck franchise. The chefs prioritize their food and ego above all else, while the interior staff have to manage the entire guest experience. Sometimes opinions clash, but food really can make or break a charter.
The only exception was the pairing of Adam Glick and Jenna MacGillivray on last season’s Below Deck Sailing Yacht. Not only did Adam and Jenna get along, they were crazy for each other. Until they weren’t. But for most of the season, their was peace in the galley. And lots of shiny glasses. Unfortunately, the premiere of Season 2 revealed that the dynamic between galley and interior was going to be very different.
Ahoy yachties! Welcome to Season 2 of Below Deck Sailing Yacht! Just one week after closing out Season 8 of the flagship franchise, we’re headed to Croatia aboard Parsifal III with Captain Glenn Shephard. Who is just nothing but a Canadian sweetheart and probably my favorite of the three Below Deck captains. And I promise that’s not just because of my obvious bias because we share the same name. He really is the best. Croatia, as a location, is also the best. And if the last time we were here is any indication (for Below Deck Mediterranean‘s iconic second season), we’re in for quite a ride.
Personally I’m thrilled to be covering Season 2 because I know a lot of people may have slept on Season 1, or didn’t it a chance. I didn’t watch it at first either. In fact, it was actually my very first binge of quarantine. Which is insane to think about now that it’s officially March and we’ve been doing this for a year now. But needless to say, I fell in love with the show. And it opened the door to me spending more time than I’d like to admit during the last year revisiting past seasons of both Below Deck and Below Deck Med as a way to escape and self-soothe during the pandemic.
The most recent episode of Below Deck Mediterranean is the episode that just keeps on giving. Every day, there’s more to the story and more people from the Below Deck universe sharing their hot takes.
There is just so much to unpack from that episode, but, among other things, Malia White pushed everyone to switch up their cabin arrangements just so Malia could sleep in the same room as her boyfriend Tom Checketts for two weeks. She had the nerve to call Hannah Ferrier “unprofessional” when all she wanted to do was continue the level of peace she had with Bugsy Drake, which would never last if they had to live together.
Even Bugsy felt the same way, but Malia villainized Hannah and went to Captain Sandy Yawn. Sandy never ran the decision by Hannah or asked for her opinion. Instead, she just announced that the decision was made over the radio. As a result, the Below Deck Med fans were livid and Below Deck alums have opinions as well. Below Deck Sailing Yacht stars Ciara Duggan and Jenna MacGillivray have a lot to say and they are #TeamHannah.
Paget Berry and Ciara Duggan were the first Below Deck couple that we got to see live and work together. Most often, a coupled crew member had someone on land that they either stay faithful to or pulled the “open relationship card” like Rob Westergaard.
But Paget and Ciara were together on Below Deck Sailing Yacht. All. The. Time. They gave off an old married couple vibe with tons of bickering and squabbling, but they were also really in tune with each other and had tender moments as well. Ciara was so confident in Paget’s feelings for her that she endured an entire season of Georgia Grobler flirting with her man without batting an eyelash, confident that Paget would never stray.
Below Deck is one of the most popular reality TV franchises. The original show is still going strong. Below Deck Mediterranean just started a new season. Below Deck Sailing Yacht recently finished its first season.
While Below Deck Sailing Yacht had some interesting drama, it became pretty exhausting to watch the ups and downs of Jenna MacGillivray and Adam Glick’s romantic relationship. Sure, it was entertaining at times, but it also was so draining. Or at least that’s how I felt, even from the comfort of my own couch at home. Adam had some redeeming moments on Below Deck Med, but pretty much none on this show. And don’t even get me started on Jenna. To put it kindly (sort of), she’s just not an audience favorite. However, I love Captain Glenn Shephard. He has a great attitude and he never hesitates to help out when the crew needs an extra hand. He’s very refreshing to watch… but I have no problem cleaning house when it comes to the rest of the cast.
Malia White is back on Below Deck Mediterranean this season and has strictly sworn off getting into another “boatmance” this time around.
In a recent interview, the newly-promoted bosun looked back on her Season 2 fling with Adam Glick. She also offered her take on the chef’s Below Deck Sailing Yacht romance with Jenna MacGillivray.
