Crystal Kung Minkoff is the new addition on the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, but she is coming into this season more confidently than Sutton Stracke. Sutton seems to be trying her voice, i.e. am I being controversial enough to secure a spot next season while still maintaining friendships and being relatable to the viewers? It’s all about authenticity this season, thanks to Garcelle Beauvais.
Sutton’s got an uphill battle ahead of her. Her demotion from housewife to friend because her kids couldn’t film with her was a hard blow. So naturally, Sutton is trying to bring it this season. Kathy Hilton, and Crystal both singled out Sutton as the pot-stirring maven of the group.
It’s early in the season, so viewers have not seen enough to comment on Kathy’s reaction, but Crystal is another story. On last week’s episode, she and Sutton got into it. It’s tangible between Crystal and Sutton. Sutton made the unfortunate decision to question Crystal’s experience as a minority woman. Sutton laments being compared to a redneck just because she’s from the South. Is it comparable? Hardly.
Sutton is offended by hyperbole on TV, while Crystal had friends made stereotypical remarks towards her. The worst part was Sutton’s intent to shut the conversation down. It’s not good manners to be dismissing someone’s feelings and talking over them. By that token, it’s certainly not good optics when the dominating one is not a minority herself.

The episode ended on a cliffhanger, but Crystal asks if Sutton is a girl who, “doesn’t see color.” The trailer for next week indicates that this feud will not be resolved. Sutton accuses Crystal of kicking her, and Crystal detaches from the group, calling Sutton a “ridiculous human being.”
Crystal isn’t backing down, and Sutton may not have picked her fights wisely. Whatever conflicts are in store during the season, this one is enough to unpack right here.
Crystal spoke to Access at a RHOBH viewing party hosted by Kathy. When asked, “who is stirring the pot the most?”, Crystal responded “Sutton.” Clearly she had this cast trip in mind.

But lets differentiate intent to cause drama with emotional hyperbole. Crystal thinks Sutton has mastered both. She singled Sutton once again when asked, “who deserves an award for being over-the-top acting?”
Clearly Sutton is bringing it this season, but to what affect? Will Sutton’s actions benefit her or backfire completely? Crystal did accept a public apology Sutton made after the episode aired. So it will be about the journey rather than the destination.
