It seems like a lifetime ago that we last had new episode of Vanderpump Rules on our screen. A lot has changed. Lisa Vanderpump’s restaurants dealt with closures due to the pandemic, and a few legal issues here and there. Stassi Schroeder, Kristin Doute, Max Boyens and Brett Caprioni were fired for alleged racist behaviors. Jax Taylor and Brittany Cartwright also “left” the show (read: probably also got fired). Stassi, Brittany, Lala Kent and Scheana Shay are new moms. Even Lisa’s beloved Giggy crossed over to doggy heaven.
After the whirlwind of an offseason, it was starting to feel like VPR was done for good. It even had Scheaners worried. Several alums (aka the one’s who “left’) were calling for a new spinoff show with just the OGs. It’s probably because they, especially Jax, could use a boost in their bank accounts right about now. And while Tom Sandoval and Ariana Madix gave us hope for a return, it seemed like the Pump Rules train came and left, never to return.
In case you haven’t heard,
fired former Vanderpump Rules bartender Jax Taylor is a dad now. Brittany Cartwright gave birth to their son, Cruz Cauchi, earlier this week. If you’re a bit terrified of the thought of Jason Cauchi being responsible for a human being, you’re not alone. Hopefully, he takes more responsibility for his child than he does with his taxes.
And Jax will always be Jax, meaning that he’ll continue to make everything about Jax. He’s probably grappling with the fact that he’s not the Number One Guy in Britt’s heart anymore. And refusing to change any diapers.
Jax Taylor truly made a name for himself as the No. 1
douchebag guy in the group on Vanderpump Rules. He made good TV in the original seasons — slacking off at his bartending job, being the worst boyfriend ever and his love/hate relationship with Tom Schwartz and Tom Sandoval was entertaining to watch. But now that he’s been fired “left” the show ahead of Season 9, along with several other OGs, it’s time for a new era of Pump Rules. Maybe this time with people who actually still work at Lisa Vanderpump’s restaurants, and don’t just pretend to clock in.
Jax is finally settling down and doing the adulting thing at the ripe age of 41. He’s married, a homeowner and is expecting a baby soon with Brittany Cartwright. It’s still unclear what he does for a job now that he’s done making watered-down drinks at Sur. But recent news claiming that he owns $1.2 million dollars in back taxes to the state and the feds definitely didn’t come at the best time — when he’s no longer pocketing those big Bravo checks anymore.
It seems like at least one person on every reality TV show ends up facing tax issues at one point. On Real Housewives of Potomac, we’ve (sort of) seen Karen Huger and Ray Huger owe “millions” in back taxes and Robyn Dixon make a $90,000 mistake on her reports to the IRS. Nene Leakes, Porsha Williams and others from the Real Housewives of Atlanta have had tax issues of their own. And in Beverly Hills, Dorit Kemsley and Lisa Vanderpump, despite their separate successes, have both been caught up with tax issues of their own.
It’s no doubt that the financial issues surrounding reality stars are more high profile no matter the situation. Hey, filing taxes isn’t easy for an everyday person, let alone someone on Bravo with several businesses, assets and expenditures to keep track of. And while there are honest mistakes, it is fascinating to read that those we think of the rich and famous might be facing financial woes off-screen, even if their on-camera appearances show otherwise.
Remember Vanderpump Rules? If this were an ordinary year (where did those go?) we would be watching our once favorite SURvers right now as they made fun of Scheana Marie, fought over petty BS, and got sloppy drunk. Alas, the reckoning of 2020 put a stop to all that. Production for Season 9 is still halted due to COVID and Bravo fired OGs Stassi Schroeder and Kristen Doute for racist actions against Faith Stowers. Jax Taylor and Brittany Cartwright also got the ax “parted” with Pump Rules in 2020.
So, who’s left? Lala Kent, Scheana, Tom Schwartz, Katie Maloney, Tom Sandoval, Ariana Madix, James Kennedy and newbie Charli Burnett. That sounds like enough for a show to me. But it seems like Bravo is slowly backtracking on last year’s exodus. First, Andy Cohen publicly mourned the changes. Now, it’s Lisa Vanderpump’s turn to plant the seeds for redemption.
Marriage Boot Camp: The Pregnant and Fired is about to have a whole season of Vanderpump Rules cast members who were terminated for being ignorant. Speculation was running rampant that Pump Rules was on death’s door and the prognosis was grim. But wait, longtime fans of the show might have a glimmer of hope! The first sign of the resurrection would have to be the demise of Jax Taylor who was unceremoniously #firedbybravo.
It’s a real shame Jax will no longer be able to cheat, sweat profusely, or gaslight other cast members going forward. Jax liked to think of himself as above everyone else. One of the best moments from the Season 8 reunion was when newbie Charli Burnett risked Jax’s wrath by implying he is a whole fossil. Jax advised Charli to “know her role” and put her in her place – now Charli wants to return the favor.
Vanderpump Rules star Lisa Vanderpump has had a rough go of it this year. Back in March, the restaurant industry suffered from massive shut downs due to the pandemic. Many restaurants decided to stay open for take out during that time, but Lisa had opted to keep SUR, Pump, TomTom, and Villa Blanca closed instead. Those who had cravings for fried goat cheese balls or Pumptini’s would have to wait. Unfortunately, Lisa ended up having to close down Villa Blanca for good.
Gradually, restrictions were lifted and restaurants were allowed to have outdoor dining. The friend goat cheese balls were being served once again as SUR reopened, and Lisa was back in action. Cast members Charli Burnett, Dayna Kathan, and Danica Dow also returned. Shortly after SUR reopened, Pump finally opened their doors as well. Things were back on the up and up for Lisa. However, with covid cases increasing, new lockdowns have been implemented in Los Angeles County. Will Lisa decide to shut down her restaurants once again?
This summer, Scheana Shay revealed that she went through a miscarriage. This was around the time that the news broke that Stassi Schroeder is pregnant. Soon after, Lala Kent and Brittany Cartwright shared their pregnancy announcements, which wasn’t surprising since they made an actual pregnancy pact with Katie Maloney.
After experiencing her miscarriage, Scheana announced that she and her boyfriend Brock Davies are expecting their first child together. He has a son and daughter from a previous marriage who live in Australia.
