Remember Vanderpump Rules? If this were an ordinary year (where did those go?) we would be watching our once favorite SURvers right now as they made fun of Scheana Marie, fought over petty BS, and got sloppy drunk. Alas, the reckoning of 2020 put a stop to all that. Production for Season 9 is still halted due to COVID and Bravo fired OGs Stassi Schroeder and Kristen Doute for racist actions against Faith Stowers. Jax Taylor and Brittany Cartwright also got the ax “parted” with Pump Rules in 2020.
So, who’s left? Lala Kent, Scheana, Tom Schwartz, Katie Maloney, Tom Sandoval, Ariana Madix, James Kennedy and newbie Charli Burnett. That sounds like enough for a show to me. But it seems like Bravo is slowly backtracking on last year’s exodus. First, Andy Cohen publicly mourned the changes. Now, it’s Lisa Vanderpump’s turn to plant the seeds for redemption.
Marriage Boot Camp: The Pregnant and Fired is about to have a whole season of Vanderpump Rules cast members who were terminated for being ignorant. Speculation was running rampant that Pump Rules was on death’s door and the prognosis was grim. But wait, longtime fans of the show might have a glimmer of hope! The first sign of the resurrection would have to be the demise of Jax Taylor who was unceremoniously #firedbybravo.
It’s a real shame Jax will no longer be able to cheat, sweat profusely, or gaslight other cast members going forward. Jax liked to think of himself as above everyone else. One of the best moments from the Season 8 reunion was when newbie Charli Burnett risked Jax’s wrath by implying he is a whole fossil. Jax advised Charli to “know her role” and put her in her place – now Charli wants to return the favor.
Vanderpump Rules star Lisa Vanderpump has had a rough go of it this year. Back in March, the restaurant industry suffered from massive shut downs due to the pandemic. Many restaurants decided to stay open for take out during that time, but Lisa had opted to keep SUR, Pump, TomTom, and Villa Blanca closed instead. Those who had cravings for fried goat cheese balls or Pumptini’s would have to wait. Unfortunately, Lisa ended up having to close down Villa Blanca for good.
Gradually, restrictions were lifted and restaurants were allowed to have outdoor dining. The friend goat cheese balls were being served once again as SUR reopened, and Lisa was back in action. Cast members Charli Burnett, Dayna Kathan, and Danica Dow also returned. Shortly after SUR reopened, Pump finally opened their doors as well. Things were back on the up and up for Lisa. However, with covid cases increasing, new lockdowns have been implemented in Los Angeles County. Will Lisa decide to shut down her restaurants once again?
This summer, Scheana Shay revealed that she went through a miscarriage. This was around the time that the news broke that Stassi Schroeder is pregnant. Soon after, Lala Kent and Brittany Cartwright shared their pregnancy announcements, which wasn’t surprising since they made an actual pregnancy pact with Katie Maloney.
After experiencing her miscarriage, Scheana announced that she and her boyfriend Brock Davies are expecting their first child together. He has a son and daughter from a previous marriage who live in Australia.
This summer, Scheana Shay opened up about the miscarriage she experienced with Brock Davies. She shared that pregnant Stassi Schroeder was super supportive during that time, which apparently bothered Stassi even though it’s the only genuinely positive publicity she’s shared in a while. Now, Stassi and Scheana aren’t friends… again.
Scheana and Lala Kent publicly feuded when Scheana wasn’t invited to Lala and Randall Emmett’s gender reveal event. Then, Scheana crossed paths with Stassi and Lala at Brittany Cartwright and Jax Taylor’s gender reveal, which had to be awkward.
The pandemic has not been friendly to the restaurant business, and especially not to Lisa Vanderpump’s West Hollywood empire. Unfortunately for the Vanderpump Rules star, she had to permanently shut down her restaurant Villa Blanca. Lisa’s other establishments, SUR, Pump, and TomTom had closed their doors, while many others in Los Angeles remained open for take out. Lisa also had troubles when a former employee sued her for allegedly not paying SUR employees.
As time passed, things began to turn around for LVP. She started a new podcast, and booked a new show for her rescue, Vanderpump Dogs. Who wouldn’t want to watch cute dogs for an hour? However, I’m sure most people will fast forward through the staged scenes of Lala Kent pretending to stock dog food and clean up poo. There is more good news for Lisa; one of her restaurants has finally reopened! And some of the Pump Rules gang are back as well.
Honestly what is left to say about Vanderpump Rules? Is there any point in discussing this? Can I bow out now with just a sayonara to the OG’s. We know that at least a 1/3 of the cast won’t return. Bravo hasn’t announced it yet, but I doubt we’ll see Lala Kent, Brittany Cartwright, or Jax Taylor next season. Well, not if they expect me to watch anyway. And we alllll know Bravo is catering things to my specific wants!
With sponsors and D-list celebrities cutting ties with Jax in response to his not-so-secret Twitter behavior, it’s only a matter of time. Like Ariana Madix pointed out during the season, Brittany is collateral damage.
But truly, after Jax got on national television, smugly insulted his boss and tried to call Andy Cohen out, I think it’s time for ‘his show’ to end. Jax’s ego is out of fucking control! He’s gross, slimy, a liar, a racist, a homophobe, and emotionally abusive to his wife. He’s also emotionally abusive to his castmates. Stassi Schroeder, who really has no room to talk, said at this point everyone is afraid to confront Jax because he’s so vicious.
At this point, it’s tough not to think “what’s the point” when it comes to finishing out this season of Vanderpump Rules. We all know that Stassi Schroeder, Kristen Doute, Max Boyens, and Brett Caprioni got fired. Without Stassi, it’s obvious that Beau Clark won’t film next season. Rumor has it that Jax Taylor might be next on the chopping block. Or at least that’s what some fans want in addition to some disgruntled VPR alums.
So, it just feels a little bit fruitless to watch this final reunion episode. However, the TV options during the coronavirus pandemic are rather limited, so here we are.
