Lala Kent Says She’s “Worthless Without Sobriety” And It “Comes Before Motherhood And Before My Relationship”

Love her or hate her, Lala Kent understands the assignment on Vanderpump Rules. What’s the assignment? To bring the drama, of course! Whether she wants to be at the heart of the it or not, Lala always finds herself somewhere in the middle of all the fighting. This makes her, along with Scheana Shay, Katie Maloney, James Kennedy, and Tom Sandoval, great on Pump Rules.

She’s also great at this reality TV thing because she shows the audience the good, bad, and messiest parts of her life. Season 9 of Pump Rules will be showing us a whole different Lala– one who is a new mom and sober. Both of these things are top priorities in Lala’s life.

In an exclusive interview with In TouchLala opened up about her relationship with sobriety. In Touch writes that, “the 31-year-old Vanderpump Rules alum says she drank ‘from morning until night’ for four days straight during a trip to Disney World with her TV producer fiancé, Randall Emmett, in October 2018.” Lala told the magazine, “I get on the plane. I’m face-chugging out of a bottle, and the next morning I woke up and said, ‘I will never live this way again,’ and I reached out and got help.”

It’s been almost three years since that day and “the new mom (she and Randall welcomed daughter Ocean [Emmett] in March… says her sobriety is the most important thing in her life.” Lala is quoted as saying, “without [my sobriety], I’m worthless in every other area. It comes before motherhood and before my relationship.”

The interviewer asked Lala whether it’s “been difficult to avoid drinking while filming Vanderpump Rules,” to which Lala replied, “No. Luckily, I’ve only had one moment where I was on the brink of a relapse.” It’s not clear if she means this almost-relapse happened during filming. Lala added, “I work very hard to stay sober. I’m not saying that a day won’t come where it will be difficult — I know those days are ahead.”

It sounds like Lala is dedicated to staying sober and also realistic about the ups and downs of sobriety. The interviewer also asked how Lala and Rand survived the “tough times” in their relationship “because of [Lala’s] addiction.” Lala shared that, “when we first started dating, it was all fun and games. Things progressed with my alcoholism very quickly.” Lala sounds pretty self-aware here, considering we witnessed a lot of her behavior during this time.

“I put him through a lot,” Lala says, “but I’ve found a partner who’s shown me unconditional love.” Kudos to Lala on her path of sobriety. It sounds like Rand is a positive influence.
